The end of May had BP meeting with officials to discuss chemical dispersants. See the report of that meeting here

BP is being accused of more coverups. Reporters claim dead animals carcasses are disappearing before they can tape them. Also, raking the sand so people can’t find the tracks of oil covered animals.
BP denies this is happening.
Meanwhile:
Here is one of the right ways to clean up oil.
This machine sifts the oil out of the ground. I’m told is highly effective.
Here is the wrong way.

This is the island of Grande Terre, where BP people are using paper towels to clean up oil off the ground. When the chick taking these pics was found, a BP cleanup contractor approached her and warned, “We don’t need this on camera.” Really? We can’t imagine why.
So far, at least 80 million gallons of oil has spilled into the gulf.
Let’s do this right people. http://matteroftrust.org

Gulf of Mexico

This is a much bigger tragedy than the Exxon Valdez. Crude oil is partially soluble in water. A percentage of every crude oil is made up of ‘polar’ chemicals that bind to water molecules. These form very lethal organic acids, ketones and actetates. The crude is spewing out of the ocean at a high pressure. The pressure at the 5,000 foot depth is 2,188 psig. The oil is at a far higher pressure and at a very high velocity and that rips out a lot of rock. This will cause the flow to increase with time. As the oil rises through the water soluble part will separate, bond and dissolve with the water and spread under the surface. Currents will carry this lethal soup across the gulf. It will spread out to the Atlantic. Some crude oils have sulfur as well which is in an organic form and soluble in water potentially forming sulfuric acid.

The oil spill area overlaps the only known spawning area for the bluefin tuna. After spending about 10 months in the north Atlantic and swimming thousands of miles to the Gulf, bluefin tuna will find themselves fighting for their lives and the survival of their species this year. This may push the bluefin tuna off the edge of extinction.
This same water is also the spawning ground for many other species, including marlin, swordfish and yellowfin tuna, which arrive in the summer. The decimation of these species will drastically disrupt our ecosystems.
Note that the water may well remain toxic for more than 10 years.
Fish, Crabs, Shrimp all dying from oil. Seems a huge percentage of American food sources come from the affected region. Means we can expect to see food prices as much as quadruple in the not so distant future and stay that way for years to come.

Do your part! BP isn’t fixing the problem. The government isn’t fixing the problem. As usual, it’s up to us to fix our own problems.

Estimates increase again as they admit that 35,000 – 60,000 has been spilling into the gulf, an increase from the 20,000-40,000 previously admitted. This means 2.5 million gallons a day. If you look at the ‘worst case’ BP says on the ticker above, you can get today’s figures.
