Carbon neutral source
The way wood pellets work is that they release exactly the same amount of carbon dioxide as what the growing plant would have used. So that means whatever amount of carbon dioxide gets consumed by the growing plant ultimately gets released into the atmosphere when the wood gets burned. This is why this is a very balanced and eco-friendly energy source. There is no excess amount of carbon dioxide that gets emitted while burning this energy source.
Even more carbon savings
As compared to other alternative environment friendly sources of energy such as solar energy and wind power it is the wood pellets which save up the maximum amount of carbon dioxide emissions. Another attraction for this energy source is that one can extract a lot more from a single tree than is possible with other sources. For example as little as 30% of a single tree is used in making wood pellets. The remaining portion is used in making and cutting up wooden planks. From just this 30% of the tree one can manufacture 3 tonnes quantity of wood pellets. These can be sufficient to warm 200 homes for a duration of around a week! That is a lot of energy coming from a single tree!
How it gets made
The wood pellets are made by breaking the wood into sawdust and then drying it up. This sawdust is then forced through die to compress into wood pellets. These pellets then get cooled and then stored in special containers. However the process can be tedious and painstaking as just one single particle of wood will take around 2 hours to get transformed into a pellet. However, every amount of time taken will be worth the effort as this environment friendly source of energy is here to stay and is particularly useful in saving the environment.
Planting new trees
The good thing about wood pellets is that they can always be manufactured as trees can be planted anytime. This is unlike other alternative energy sources like solar energy and wind power which depend on the elements of nature. The wood boilers are also considered to be much cheaper in cost as compared to other eco-friendly sources like wind power. For example wind turbines have been found to be much more expensive than the boilers used for heating wood pellets.
Using up forestry waste
Wood pellets can be very useful in eliminating landfills. There are plenty of forests all across the world and the wasted wood from these can be put to very good use. If such wood is left standing then it can result in the production of methane gas which again damages the environment. Instead if it gets used in the manufacture of wood pellets then we can see some significant advantages. It is in essence almost like recycling waste.

ThermoCellit honeycombed clay blocks are made from fired clay and have a honeycomb cross-section. The external walls of your property can be built rapidly with this single skin eco friendly build system which replaces conventional cavity walls. These thermocellit honeycombed clay blocks combine rapid build time with moisture protection, noise and thermal insulation all in one.
The large block size, coupled with the fact that cavity wall construction is no longer required to satisfy the Building Regulations, means that buildings can be much more rapidly built.
The blocks are laid with a horizontal mortar joint 8-12mm thick using a special light weight mortar.
Vertical joints are tongue and grooved and need no mortar. The ThermoCellit range includes special blocks for windows and corners, and lintels.
Internal walls can also be built with Cellit blocks.
The main and obvious advantages gained by using Thermocellit build blocks are rapid build times and more importantly the eco friendliness of the system along with the following:
• Easy to plan wall layout
• Easy to use
• Blocks can be cut
• No mortar is needed in the vertical joints due to a tongue and grooved edge, reducing mortar use by up to 40%.
• Very little thermal movement results in less cracking and better building resale values
• Surface fixings compare favourably with conventional masonry construction
• The blocks are very strong and have a high impact resistance
The large block size, which allows rapid construction coupled with excellent thermal properties, makes this a very eco friendly build system and is becoming very popular. We are already in the process of building 5 properties with this system. See our web site: www.1st2spain.com. There are several great external and internal finishes available. We use Mona Capa which is the best suited for Spanish climate in our opinion.
ThermoCellit block
Height 240 mm Length 260 mm Thickness 300 / 365 mm Weight 162 / 197 kg/m² respectively
Vapour diffusion resistance, ? 4 U-value with external render and internal plaster
0.36/0.30 W/m²K respectively Crushing strength of Thermocellit wall 4 N/mm²
Sound reduction (with render + plaster finishes) 48 / 51 dB respectively
Cellit block
Height 240 mm Length 400 mm Thickness 100 / 125 / 150 mm Weight 74 / 90 / 108 kg/m²
Crushing strength of Cellit wall 4 N/mm²
Sound reduction (plaster both sides) 47 dB (125 block)
Mortar 30 kg bag (mixed with 10 litres water makes 30 litres wet
mortar). Sufficient for 1.00 m² of 300 mm wall and 0.80 m² of 365 mm wall at 8-12 mm mortar joint thickness.
Maintenance
No maintenance required.
Humidity and condensation
High protection against dampness *********** and the formation of condensation.
Acoustic Insulation
Good results are easily achieved.
Quality of living environment
Healthier living environment is assured by the lack of dampness, the good insulation values and the resistance against biological growth.
Air quality
The clay blocks do not contain pollutants such as fibres, organic airborne materials (benzene, toluene, solvents, ethers), formaldehyde and so on (there are about 100 possible pollutants in organic airborne materials such as PFA). No fungicides or insecticides are present and no radioactive components.
Recyclability
Thermocellit clay building blocks are totally recyclable. href=”http://www.1st2spain.com”>http://www.1st2spain.com

Lately there’s been a huge number of companies coming out with “green” or “eco friendly” cleaning products.
However, some manufacturers may be promoting their products as being good for the environment without their truly being eco friendly.
How can you tell if the products in the store are good for the environment, or if they’re just using that phrase on their labeling to make you think they are?
There are no standards to verify a product as “green” or “eco friendly.” Some products on the market are listed as eco safe, environmentally friendly, environmentally safe, green, or non-toxic. Any manufacturer can choose to use those labels. But do these labels really mean that the products are safe for the environment?
If you can’t tell if a product is environmentally safe just by reading the labels, how do you know if it is safe to use or not? Until there is some type of certification to very that a product is “green” the consumer is responsible for evaluating the products they use and whether the products claims are true.
You can always use household products like white vinegar, baking soda, and essential oils to make home recipes that would be very effective in cleaning your home. Be sure to label the homemade cleaners clearly and store them where children cannot reach them. Also, NEVER mix ammonia and chlorine bleach; the results are extremely toxic.
One product that has been used widely to disinfect modern homes is chlorine bleach. However, chlorine bleach has chemical compounds in it that should not be used in the home, and are extremely toxic. If you need an alternative for chlorine bleach, try hydrogen peroxide bleach, leaving it on the surface to be cleaned for a minimum of ten minutes. Wiping it up any sooner will not kill the germs.
What if you need another cleaner? Throw your support behind companies that list each and every ingredient in their product. Two such companies are Ecover and Seventh Generation. Although they are not required by law to list all of their ingredients, they are proving that the product is safe by doing so.
Choose a product that specifies how long it takes for them to decompose in nature. Being labeled “biodegradable” doesn’t necessarily mean that you should choose this product. Use a product that specifies that it will biodegrade completely in “X” number of days. You will know that after that time, the product will no longer affect the environment.
Here are some labels that you should avoid:
corrosive
chlorine bleach
ammonia
phosphates
petroleum products
You’ll also want to avoid products that have artificial fragrances and those made with animal by-products. All of these labels indicate that the product is harmful, not only to the environment but also to your family.
Finally, if you’re not 100% sure about a product, you can always call the toll-free telephone number on the product. Ask them questions about the ingredients. Request as much specific information about it as you can. And, if the manufacturer refuses to answer your questions, you might consider finding another product.
Finding truly economic-friendly products that are safe and effective for cleaning your home is not impossible. It takes a little time reading labels but the time is worth it. The only other option would be to make your own.
